CMJ NEW MUSIC REPORT: In a clear, medium-deep voice, spiced to perfection, Boutté displays exquisite control in her phrasing, intonation and textural attention to line.

 

LIPSTICK TRACES is about a meeting between a great lady of song from New Orleans and a young European piano virtuoso.They both met when working at various festivals with their own groups.  Lillian Boutt‚ has recorded with Allan Toussaint,Dr.John,Mylon LeFleur, and  she has also worked with such as Jay McShann,Sammy Price,Doc Cheatham, Arnett Cobb and England's trumpet great Humphrey Littleton.She has been awarded the  the official title New Orleans Music Ambassador, not bestowed since  Louis Armstrong wore the badge.She regularly performs at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival in both the jazz and the gospel category. A very busy touring schedule has exposed Lillian Boutt‚ to a wide audience in Europe and The United States.

Christian Willisohn, from Munich, is a most remarkable exponent of blues and boogie woogie piano enjoying great success in Europe and also New Orleans. He has worked with Louisiana Red,Memphis Slim,Aron Burton,Vince  Weber and recorded with Aron Burton and Zorah Young. Earlier this year BLUES BEACON released the much acclaimed  solo album Boogie Woogie And Some Blues.

Erving Charles Jr. and "Smokey" Johnson travelled the world with Fats Domino and also Ray Charles, among others. Together they form the stellar New Orleans R&B rhythm section.
